Achalasia Cardia is a rare Esophageal motility disorder in which the patient presents with difficulty in swallowing food, frequent vomiting after food intake, and weight loss. Endoscopy generally is inconclusive, however with normal endoscopy with these symptoms they must be evaluated with Esophageal Manometry and barium swallow. If diagnosed, then surgical treatment is the best treatment option. Laparoscopic Heller’s myotomy with fundoplication is the surgery performed for this entity, which is quite a safe and painless procedure with experienced hands with 2-3 days of hospital stay and 80-90% relief of symptoms within 5-7 days of surgery. POEM (per oral endoscopic myotomy) is an endoscopic procedure described for achalasia cardia, however, it is associated with a high risk of gastroesophageal reflux and relentless symptoms. Hence if you find any symptoms of dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing) for more than a year, and are undiagnosed, then don’t hesitate to contact us. Laparoscopic surgery is the best cure for this entity, rest assured.
