A cholecystectomy is a surgical procedure that removes your gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small organ lying beneath your liver. It is located on the upper right side of your belly or abdomen. Bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver, is stored in the gallbladder. The gallbladder can be surgically removed in two ways: open strategy (traditional) This operation entails making a single 4 to 6 inch long cut (incision) in the upper right side of your tummy. The surgeon locates and removes the gallbladder through the incision. Laparoscopic surgery. Three to four very small incisions are made throughout this surgery. It makes use of a laparoscope, which is a long, narrow tube. Within the tube are a tiny camera and surgical equipment.
